Domenic Martini Week 2
In order to
motivate the participants of my workshop I would like them to start with a
small group discussion about why they are attending in the first place. Before
they begin I will share a short bit about myself and why I am so motivated in Response
to Intervention. The hope, is that in their small group discussions participants
will begin to realize their own motivations. With enough forethought I could
create a more individualized experience for the groups (Merriam & Bierema, pp.149).
Getting
participants to be more self-directed will be an easy enough exercise if I am
prepared enough and can contact people before the actual training. It would be
best for the teachers involved to bring in current, or past, student issues
that can be developed and hopefully solutions can be developed. These “breakout”
sessions with real-world applications will help make the program feel more
useful to everyone.
Technology will
be used during the workshop as a means to locate and develop intervention
strategies. As a group we can develop a shared Google folder that has general
interventions for students. This folder can then be used in the future as a
resource that can continue to grow and be developed well after the program has
finished.
As far as
obstacles and questions that I have considered at this point the largest one
will be how the time should be divided. I typically am a person that enjoys
getting time to work on a specific issue or problem and enjoy it when workshops
offer time to do so. Another conflict I can foresee is with teachers that are
looking to get quick fixes for large student issues. I’ve come across this in the
past and it can be an unfortunate downward spiral when teachers move from solution-based
thinking to just negativity and complaining. I will need to develop a plan of
how to kindly curb this type of discussion.
